Commentary: Failure to Increase Water Supplies will Threaten California’s Future

“The recent news that the California Department of Water Resources plans to cut water allocations for State Water Project contractors to 5 percent for water this year is alarming.
“This has the potential to impact our state’s water supply for decades to come, if not permanently. Such an allocation will continue the depletion of local groundwater resources, fallow thousands of acres of productive farmland, raise food costs, increase already expensive agriculture and urban water rates, and result in the loss of countless jobs in our state.”
