Privacy Policy

The Water Education Foundation recognizes and is committed to your need for protection and privacy on the internet.

In general, you can visit our website (www.watereducation.org) without telling us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. We do collect the IP addresses and domain names of visitors for site administration purposes, such as analyzing the data for trends and statistics. No personal information is obtained. Rather, patterns of usage of our various users may be tracked and monitored. We do not share statistical or aggregated nonpersonal information about our users with anyone other than Foundation staff.

This privacy policy identifies what personal information is collected from visitors to the Water Education Foundation’s website, how the information is used, under what conditions it is shared or released to another party and how inaccuracies in the data can be corrected.

Information that may be collected:

When you visit www.watereducation.org, the Water Education Foundation may collect and store the following information about your visit:

Internet Protocol (IP) address and domain name used

The IP address is a numerical identifier assigned either to your internet service provider or directly to your computer. It is not your email address. The Foundation uses IP addresses through Google Analytics to identify and log the most common browsers used, the date and times of visits to the site, duration of visits to the site, web pages and features accessed at the site, and other websites visited immediately prior to entering the Foundation’s website. This information — which does not identify any visitors personally— is used to improve the content of our website and help us understand how people use the site.

Personal profile, if created by a visitor

If you choose to sign up for updates from the Foundation, we ask for your name, email address and ZIP code. The information is used to send you news and information about the Foundation and its programs, and to aggregate information of interest to you on the website. The Foundation does not rent or sell this information to any third party.

Email correspondence and survey responses

If during your visit to www.watereducation.org you participate in a survey or send an email to the Foundation via the “Contact Us” webpage, the following information will be collected: the email address and contents of the email, and any information you volunteered in response to a survey. Contents of the email message will be used to respond to your message, to assist in obtaining the information requested, or to further improve the Foundation website. Survey information will be used for the purpose designated.

Personal information and choice:

“Personal information” is information about an individual that is readily identifiable to that specific individual. Personal information includes personal identifiers such as an individual’s name, address, phone number and email address. An IP number or domain name is not considered personal information.

The Foundation does not collect personal information about you unless you voluntarily participate in an activity that asks for that information, such as sending an email, signing up for our newsletters or announcements, participating in a survey, purchasing one of our products, registering for an event or donating to us. Any information so collected will be used for the purposes stated above. We will not share your information with any third party outside our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request, e.g., to ship an order.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email in the future to tell you about new educational opportunities or programs, as well as ways you can support our organization, or changes to this privacy policy.

Cookies:

The Foundation’s website does not serve cookies — a tiny text file stored on your computer by a website — to website visitors. However, third-party services, such as Google Analytics, do serve cookies.  The cookie allows the site to automatically recognize you and remember content you have viewed previously. This tiny text file does not — and never will — store passwords, credit card numbers or any type of personally identifiable information whatsoever.

Access to and control over information:

You may opt out of any future contact from us at any time. You can do the following at any time by contacting us via https://www.watereducation.org/contact-us or the phone number on our website and asking to:

  • See what data we have about you, if any.
  • Change/correct/delete any data we have about you.
  • Express any concern you have about our use of your data.

How to contact us:

If you want to unsubscribe from email lists at any time, you can do so quickly and easily by clicking on the “Unsubscribe from this list” link at the bottom of the email, or by contacting us at https://www.watereducation.org/contact-us

Security:

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way via third-party sites such as Shopify, PayPal and Eventbrite. You can verify this by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.

Links to other websites:

This privacy policy covers the Foundation’s website. The site links to a number of other websites, including Eventbrite, Shopify and PayPal. Should you choose to visit those websites, please remember that the Foundation is not responsible for their content or privacy policies.

Changes to our Policy:

We may modify or amend this policy in the future to better protect your information. If there are material changes to this policy, we will prominently post such changes prior to implementing the change. Questions regarding this statement should be sent to us via our contact form: https://www.watereducation.org/contact-us
