Big Day of Giving is today, and your donation can help the Foundation continue its work to enhance public understanding about California’s most important natural resource – water.

Big Day of Giving is an annual 24-hour online event aimed at raising funds for nonprofits in the Sacramento region and highlighting the good work they do. You can make your Big Day of Giving donation until midnight tonight.

Here’s how to give a tax-deductible donation. Minimum donation is $15, and any amount is appreciated. If you donate $50 or more, you will receive your choice of one of our beautiful water maps. And if you donate $100 or more, you get a map plus a $100 voucher for one of our upcoming 2019 water tours!

For more than 40 years, the Water Education Foundation has offered an array of programs and publications with the goal of impartially bringing together diverse points of view to educate and foster public understanding of water.

Join us at our open house today in midtown Sacramento from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to talk with our staff and learn more about what we do.

Our goal is to raise funds to support our programs and publications. Among other things, your donation will help us to continue:

• Holding teacher workshops as part of our statewide Project WET (water education for teachers), an interdisciplinary water science education program for formal and non-formal educators of kindergarten through 12th grade students that is developed, standard-aligned, field-tested and reviewed by educators and resource managers. 
• Giving scholarships for our water tours and workshops about water. Our tours are two- to three-day excursions that offer participants a firsthand look at the water facilities, rivers, and regions critical in the debate about the future of water resources. Issues of water supply, water quality, environmental restoration, flood management, groundwater, and conservation are addressed by a wide range of speakers representing various viewpoints.
• Updating Aquapedia, a free online “encyclopedia of water,” which centers on resource articles supplemented with photos, videos, interactive maps and other online tools. Together, they provide background and context to understanding California’s complex water issues.
• Posting each weekday on Aquafornia, our free online water news aggregator. Aquafornia covers California water news from both traditional and non-traditional news sources, presenting the many sides and views of the water picture, with the goal of fostering an understanding of various positions and discussion toward resolution of these often controversial issues.
