Water 101 Workshop Offers Rookies and Veterans Alike a Chance to Gain a Deeper Understanding of California Water
April 8 Workshop in Sacramento to include optional one-day Groundwater Tour on April 7
One of our most popular events, Water 101 offers a once-a-year opportunity for anyone new to California water issues or newly elected to a water district board — and really anyone who wants a refresher — to gain a deeper understanding of the state’s most precious natural resource.
Water 101, to be held April 8 at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, details the history, geography, legal and political facets of water in California, as well as hot topics currently facing the state. The workshop is taught by some of California’s leading policy and legal experts.
The workshop will be beneficial to water resource industry staff, engineers and lawyers, city council members, county supervisors, legislative staff, press, environmentalists, farmers, public interest organizations, directors of water and irrigation districts and others.
Optional Groundwater Tour
Attendance at the workshop also includes the option of participating in a daylong tour examining one of the state’s most critical water resources, groundwater.
Led by Foundation staff and Thomas Harter, Chair for Water Resources Management and Policy at the University of California, Davis, the tour will give you a firsthand look at groundwater issues.
During stops along the tour, you will learn more about how groundwater is used by cities and farms, examine a subsidence-measuring station, get the latest updates on efforts to meet requirements of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act and more.
There are two ticket options:
- The one-day workshop on Friday,
April 8, is $259, which includes refreshments,
lunch and materials, including the Layperson’s
Guide to California Water.
OR - The workshop plus the one-day groundwater tour on Thursday, April 7, for $485. The tour provides refreshments, lunch and materials, including the Layperson’s Guide to Groundwater.
Please note: Participants can only attend the tour as part of registration for the workshop the next day.
