Oakland Celebrates Lake Merritt Revival

The Love Our Lake fest was a chance for the city to show off its investment, largely funded through Measure DD, a $198 million clean-water bond passed in 2002….Less obvious to people but of utmost importance to fish and birds is the channel overhaul. The city is removing century-old culverts so saltwater from the estuary can flow more freely into the lake, circulating the water and increasing the oxygen content.
