Teaching the ABCs of Solano water
… For students in grades K-12, with instruction geared for various respective grade levels, [Solano Resource Conservation District’s “School Water Education Program,”] … delivers the facts about Solano’s drinking water, stormwater, and water conservation. With the help of maps and a 30-by-36-inch 3-D plastic EnviroScape model, students learn how water travels in our communities — “From high places to low places,” [Hilda] Ochoa said — and also how pollution moves through storm drains and into the Solano watershed, the land that drains water into a lake, river, stream, bay or ocean. Ochoa asked the students how they use water every day? The answers, obvious, came quickly from several students: drinking, swimming, bathing, washing hands, and laundry.
