Our Water 101 Workshop in February in West Sacramento is a unique, once-a-year opportunity designed to give newly elected water district directors and other participants a chance to go beyond the headlines and gain a deeper understanding of California water.

Participants will learn from top experts, such as former Natural Resources Secretary Lester Snow, about:

• the history and hydrology of water in California
• the story behind the big water projects
• how water bills move through the Legislature
• what agencies regulate which water issues
• proposed Delta tunnels project
• Sustainable Groundwater Management Act
• how climate change is affecting water supplies
• water rights system
• alternative water supplies

The optional, second half-day is especially helpful to new directors of water districts when sessions address board member governance, including the Brown Act and the Public Records Act, and tips on dealing with the media and using social media to communicate to customers.
