Get a Behind-The-Scenes Understanding of the California Water Bond at Water 101 Workshop
Longtime Legislative Expert Alf W. Brandt Among Lineup of Top Speakers
Recent polls show considerable voter support for the new $7.5 billion water bond on the Nov. 4 ballot. How the revised bond made it to the ballot and what is – and isn’t – in the measure will be discussed at the Water Education Foundation’s Water 101 Workshop in Southern California.
Alf W. Brandt, an expert on water resource law and policy, is the Legislative Director for California State Assemblyman Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood. Rendon, who is chair of the Committee on Water, Parks & Wildlife, was one of the chief authors of what became Proposition 1 – the November water bond. Brandt will discuss how to most effectively participate in the legislative process, using the water bond as an example.
Brandt has drafted, analyzed and helped develop Assembly water legislation, drawing on his long history of experience in California water controversies. His accomplishments include the 2007 flood protection package, the 2009 Delta/Water Legislation, and this year’s water bond. Prior to joining the Assembly staff, Brandt served at the U.S. Department of the Interior, working on California and Nevada water law controversies, and on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, leading the City of Los Angeles delegation.
Brandt is just one of the speakers in a lineup of top experts who will provide an overview of the state’s water resources, its water system operations and water rights law at this unique workshop that is held annually or every two years. Other hot topics include the drought and the new groundwater legislation.
Attend the first day or both days of the day-and-a-half workshop on Oct. 2-3 in Rancho Cucamonga near Ontario. Day two includes a governance primer geared toward water district board members. Attorneys can earn between 5 to 8 MCLE credits for attending this event.
