Description: Join the Inland Northern Science Project (INSP), California Department of Water Resources, and Project WET as we explore the impact of a changing climate within the Feather River watershed and projects designed to increase ecological and climate resiliency within the State Water Project – one of the most important water supply sources for the entire state.
The institute dates are June 12 – 14, October 5th for the Feather River Salmon kayak trip and a TBD late afternoon date the week of November 4th to share curriculum project summaries.
Highlights of the Butte Water Institute include:
- Visiting the site of the Iron Canyon Fish Passage Project;
- Training in Project WET and receiving a guide with access to over 110 engaging water activities;
- Engaging in water quality activities at the Butte Creek Ecological Preserve;
- Learning about the importance of Oroville Dam and key features of the State Water Project;
- Exploring the Thermalito Forebay and education programs available at the Forebay Aquatics Center;
- Learning about the impact of wildfire on the Feather River watershed;
- A Fall canoe trip on the Feather River during the fall salmon migration.
Participants will receive a $400 stipend and an opportunity to purchase 2 Continuing Education Units through the CSU Chico upon completion of the institute and a curriculum integration project.
