Description: Speak Up for the Coast: Protecting, Enhancing, and Restoring our Land and Water! Join Project WET, the California Coastal Commission, and the Upper Newport Bay Community-Based Restoration & Education Program in for an exciting day engaging with the science of the shoreline and exploring the wonders of water.

• Experience a 5E instructional sequence (via key Science & Engineering Practices from the Next Generation Science Standards: questioning, modeling, and evidence-based argumentation)

• Practice launching a community-based habitat restoration project with a challenging problem, driving questions, and engaging tech connections (problem/project-based learning)

• Get outside!

These three instructional strategies (including Outdoor Learning!) are explicitly endorsed in the California Department of Education’s new Science Framework for California Public Schools.

Workshop participants will receive:

1. Project Wet Curriculum and Activity Guide 2.0 with over 90 interdisciplinary, hands-on learning activities. This award-winning guide is teacher-tested and recommended by NSTA.

2. The Coastal Commission’s new California Coastal Voices: Exploring Coastal Science, Engineering, and Policy, a project learning guide and online toolkit. This guide is especially helpful for secondary teachers seeking to integrate Earth Science into traditional subjects.

3. Professional growth credit can be obtained through UOP’s Courses4Teachers, with additional work performed.
