CALFED Today: A Roundtable Discussion
September/October 2002
The release of the CALFED Record of Decision in 2000 marked a turning point in the multi-year effort to craft a Delta “fix” that addressed both environmental problems and water supply reliability. How to finance the many components within the plan and ensure the plan is implemented over the next 30 years is a major issue. This was the focus of a July roundtable discussion between Foundation Chief Writer Sue McClurg, CALFED Director Patrick Wright and three leading stakeholders: David Guy, Northern California Water Association; Tim Quinn, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California; and Frances Spivy-Weber, Mono Lake Committee. Issues addressed during the roundtable discussion included CALFED governance, CALFED funding, CALFED’s increasing focus on regional solutions, and the pending water bond, Proposition 50.
