San Diego Tour Showcases Milestones in Water Infrastructure
See the old, the new and historic milestones reached in the development of the San Diego region’s water supply during our tour on May 19-20.
Over two days, we will visit:
- The region’s first water project built by Spanish missionaries at Mission Trails Regional Park
- Olivenhain Dam, which is California’s first dam constructed of roller-compacted concrete
- San Vicente Dam, which in 2014 completed the largest dam raise in U.S. history
As for the new, we’ll be looking at the future of water security at the new ocean desalination plant in Carlsbad and the Pure Water San Diego Water Purification Demonstration Project.
Participants will also learn firsthand about the State Water Project, the San Diego Aqueduct, which transports water from the Colorado River, water quality and groundwater treatment, conservation measures and recycled water.
